Memo to Ballmer

March 26th, 2004 · Comments Off

Steve Gillmor makes the case for RSS in a memo to Steve Ballmer.

“Steve, you need to support RSS. Where do I want to go today? To my RSS reader.”
While I think Steve’s memo makes some good points and suggestions, I think it is unclear as to exactly how Microsoft needs to do to “support” RSS. Unless [...]

At the same time, Scoble brought up some good points to Schwartz’ goofy comments about the open source community’s invovlement with [...]

March 9th, 2004 · Comments Off

Dave Winer extends an olive branch to the Atom contingent to unite the two formats:

“RSS is here to stay and so are Google and Movable Type. Let’s all acknowledge that and stop this fight now.”
I think this is an obvious choice. Hope it happens.

Sun Adopts RSS

March 9th, 2004 · Comments Off

Dave points to an interview with Sun’s Jonathan Schwartz by Steve Gillmore:

“And there is already so much innovation occurring in the RSS community óthe number of articles written on RSS today is staggering.”
It’s amazing that it has taken so long. Sun’s adoption of RSS is welcomed news though.

The Myth of RSS Compatibility

March 4th, 2004 · Comments Off

Mark Pilgrim summarizes his research into RSS compatibility:

“There are 9 versions of RSS, all of which are incompatible with various other versions. RSS 0.90 is incompatible with Netscapeís RSS 0.91, Netscapeís RSS 0.91 is incompatible with Userlandís RSS 0.91, Netscapeís RSS 0.91 is incompatible with RSS 1.0, Userlandís RSS 0.91 is incompatible with RSS 0.92, [...]
