Robert Scoble responded to Gillmore’s interview with Sun’s Schwartz yesterday. His comments sound a little reactive to me:
“Translation: “Will someone please offer Scobleizer a ton of money to leave Microsoft? He’s killing us.” ;-)”
At the same time, Scoble brought up some good points to Schwartz’ goofy comments about the open source community’s invovlement with RSS:
“My reply? RSS wasn’t done in the “open source community.” It was done by Dave Winer. At least the RSS I use and like best (RSS 2.0). Also, MSDN had RSS Feeds almost a year ago. Welcome to the RSS party. I agree, it is a fun one!”
I think it is common place but ridiculous to see OS vendors sparring over a data format. Gentlemen, its a data format. If people are using it and its widely available, of course it should be supported. This isn’t too difficult to think through. My prediction? RSS will continue to make lots of headway long before anything specific from Sun or Microsoft see the light of day.
