I liked Steve Gillmor’s comments about RSS:
The advent of the blogosphere and RSS has provided both a filter for information and a low-barrier mechanism for empowering the direct participants in a conversation.
RSS is difficult to describe, and even more difficult to give up. For me, it’s the conversation that keeps me coming back for more. The filter, the sense of time being respected, the mesh of great minds, emotion, and humor.
