A few days ago, I was having significant troubles with Bestcomm Inc. at the Homewood Suites in Scottsdale.
We have moved. Now we are in the Homewood Suites in Phoenix. What a difference. The hotel is great. But that isn’t what I want to talk about.
My machine is halfway repaired from meltdown, I thought I would finish downloading some files I started earlier today. They are big. Not that many, not that big.
Sure enough, halfway through my download the Internet shuts down. I am guessing right away that the ISP has blocked my MAC address again. Guest Velocity is our new service provider.
I call support, Michael takes a look. I told him that I had taken every precaution to make sure that I wasn’t abusing my connection and that I was just downloading a moderately large file with a single thread.
Here is what his response was:
“It doesn’t matter how big your files are. It doesn’t matter how many threads you have open. What we look for is what port you are using to download. If you look like a bittorrent app or limewire, we block you.”
In other words, they are blocking anything that looks like a pirate download.
Obviously, my download manger uses a suspicious port.
Just think antiblog88, (commenter that cannot be named) a first level tech that knows his stuff. antiblog88 is the commenter who cannot be named that made such wonderful comments about my last ISP from hell experience.
Back to the story.
He looks at things, checks my MAC address and says:
“Your hotel is incredibly slow tonight, I am just going to unblock everything.”
BAM. My network comes right back up.
“All I need, is your name and room number.” “Have a good night.”
Michael is a man that will go a long way in the service industry.
Sandy, Nick, take note.
